Peter’s journey shows what your support makes possible!
Peter’s journey with Hope Ignites Phoenix began in eighth grade at St. Francis Xavier, where he quickly stood out as a driven, determined student. Through Brophy Prep and into college, he remained focused on his education with steady resilience.
With your support, Peter received guidance at every step, from school research and applications to financial aid workshops and mentorship. That support helped him earn a prestigious QuestBridge scholarship, fully funding his education at Macalester College in Minnesota.
His path wasn’t without obstacles. Peter faced test anxiety, demanding coursework, and the challenge of balancing rugby with academics. “Calc 3 was pretty hard,” he recalls, “but I pulled through because I had a great roommate who rooted for me.” A difficult sophomore year nearly derailed him, but with encouragement from those around him, he persevered.
Answering The Call To Teach
After graduating, Peter felt a pull towards teaching. During college, he had volunteered to teach a computer class at the St. Paul Library, and the experience sparked something in him. He joined the Brophy Alumni Service Corps to give teaching a real shot – and it clicked. “That year was perfect,” Peter says, “I felt like teaching was my calling.”
Today, Peter is back at Brophy teaching Algebra 2 and AP Computer Science, while pursuing a master’s degree in secondary education through Creighton University’s Magis program. He credits Hope Ignites Phoenix and Alex, Director of College and Career Support, for helping him reach the finish line.
Peter’s story reminds us that success isn’t just about getting into college, it’s about launching a life. Thanks to your support, Peter crossed the finish line with purpose and is now helping others do the same.
